What is a Registered Dietitian?
The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is a food and nutrition expert who has met strict academic and professional requirements and is certified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
Is there a difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist?
Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, but only and Registered Dietitian (RD) or RDN has completed multiple layers of education and training established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition to a four-year degree, completion of an extensive supervised program of practice, passing a rigorous registration exam and maintain continuing education credits; many RDNs hold a graduate degree and certifications in specialized fields such as pediatrics, renal or oncology to name a few.
The definition and requirements for the term “nutritionist” vary, also some states have licensure laws that define the range of practice for “nutritionist” and other states allows them to practice without any previous education, training or work experience.
What should I expect during these visits?
In your first consultation with your Dietitian you can expect to have an in-depth discussion of your medical, social and family history, previous diets and their outcomes, define goals and expectations. Your Dietitian will help develop strategies to accomplish those goals. In subsequent visits, you will review and discuss with your dietitian accomplishments and well as challenges since your last visit and redesign some of the original strategies developed for you. Your dietitian will be assisting you throughout the way to help you achieve your goals for a better health.
Will my Insurance cover my visit?
Your policy determines whether your diagnosis is covered under your plan. Not all insurances cover all conditions. We will be happy to help you determine your coverage guidelines and if you are not covered, we offer reasonable self-pay options. We will also provide you with a receipt that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
Can I use your services if I live out of state?
Yes, Our Nutrition Team is also available and ready to help you with convenient Telehealth Nutrition Consultation in the comfort of your home.
Do You Give Supplements?
We do not sell supplements, but we will evaluate your diet and medical condition and advise you if supplements are recommended.
